Family Weekend

Karen and I went up to visit Gavin and Sierra for Family Weekend. Some of the rest of the extended family was there to visit their own student as well as Gavin and Sierra.

The bunks

After standing around outside, we went inside to see how Gavin had personalized his room.

This is where all of the studying happens

We completed the inside tour and took a stroll around campus.
This is the view across the street from Gavin's dorm.

The Gym

There is a Green between Gavin's dorm and the academic buildings.

Pioneer Hall was built in 1882 and is the oldest building on campus.

It is also the tallest building in Yamhill County.

Gavin's Turn

At the end of August, Gavin was off to college!
All loaded up and ready to go
After a long drive (north of course) we arrived at Linfield.

Gavin's Dorm
We, along with the other 555 incoming freshman and their parents, attended opening activities.

The Linfield Taiko Drummers started the proceedings. The members include both faculty and students.

Dr. Hellie, president of Linfield College, gave a welcome speech.
The guy in the white shirt on the left side of the platform is the president of the ASLC (Student Government).  Later in the evening Gavin beat him in a Linfield Trivia contest and, after winning against three other contestants, won a $100 gift card to the bookstore. Way to go, Gavin!

After attending all of the activities and helping Gavin get his room set up, Kevin and I headed home. We took a detour to see some beautiful falls.

Salt Creek Falls
Salt Creek Falls is located in the Willamette Forest just east of Oakridge. It is the second largest waterfall in Oregon. What a nice pause in our long trip back home.
